Latchford
1880. The Station opened under the name of Latchford and Grappenhall
until completion of the line over the ship canal on August 9th 1893. The
Level crossing next to the station and the one in the distance were typical
of this rout; in fact, one of the pieces of evidence against the withdrawal
of passenger services in the early 1960s was that the boxes would still
need to be manned for freight trains and so the savings would be
minimal, but it closed anyway
